Overview

Full-size bunded DG storage, factory-direct

The 20ft dangerous goods container is a full-size 6 m bunded outdoor DG store with a 1,200 L integrated welded steel bund and 33.2 m3 of internal volume for bulk flammable, corrosive, and chemical storage. SCS Global builds it factory-direct from our Yixing, Jiangsu facility and ships it ready-signed for Class 3, 4.1, 4.3, 5.1, 6.1, and 8 dangerous goods. It sits at the top of our dangerous goods containers range and complies with AS 1940:2017, AS 3780:2023, and AS 3833:2024, with a Certificate of Compliance issued per unit. The 20ft is SCS's most-produced DG size: more floor area, a larger bund, and four door configurations to match how often stock is loaded and rotated. If your inventory is light, step down to the 10ft for the same compliance in a smaller footprint.

Specifications

20ft Dangerous Goods Container Specifications

The 20ft DG container runs a fully welded Corten steel shell on an RHS floor frame, with a non-spark industrial mesh floor over the steel deck and no timber. It measures 6,058 mm long externally, with 5,900 mm of internal length, and the bund wall is integrated into the frame, so spill containment is part of the box. Each unit comes off our factory-direct line ready-signed for Class 3, 4.1, 4.3, 5.1, 6.1, and 8 service, subject to SDS compatibility.

Bunded Containment

Bunding Capacity and Spill Containment

Every unit ships with a 1,200 L welded steel bund in the floor frame, sized under AS 1940 to hold more than the largest single liquid container. The bund wall ties into raised cross-members, so spills drop below the working floor. That caps any single drum or IBC at roughly 1,000 to 1,100 litres; the ~10,000 L total is reached across multiple smaller containers, the calc that matters for an oil storage shipping container holding bulk diesel. Drain hardware is 316L stainless and lockable; every bund is pressure-tested before shipping.

Compliance

Compliance: AS 1940, AS 3780 and AS 3833:2024

The 20ft DG store complies with AS 1940:2017 (flammable and combustible liquids), AS 3780:2023 (corrosive substances), and AS 3833:2024 (mixed-class segregation), and we issue a Certificate of Compliance with every unit. The 20ft's larger footprint makes mixed-class segregation a genuine buyer requirement: a single box can carry flammables and corrosives together if segregation distances, bunding, and ventilation are laid out for that class combination, requested at quote stage. SafeWork Australia sets the work-health-and-safety duties that sit alongside these standards.

ISO certification ISO
Bureau Veritas certification Bureau Veritas
DNV certification DNV
Lloyd's Register certification Lloyd's Register

Door Configurations

Door Configurations and Access Options

The 20ft is built in four door configurations. The right one comes down to how often you load and rotate stock, and whether a forklift or a person on foot does the loading. Door choice is set at order so the factory builds to your access pattern.

Double-leaf end door

A set-and-forget bulk store for sites that fill once and draw down slowly. Lowest cost, smallest opening.

Single side-opening

Mid-frequency access through one working face. Suits manual drum and jerrycan handling.

Double side-opening

Two working faces for faster loading and clearer sightlines across the bund.

Full-length side-opening

The whole long wall opens for forklift and palletised-IBC access. Built for high-throughput sites with frequent stock rotation, and on a high-cube build the extra internal height clears bulkier palletised IBCs.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Three questions procurement and operations teams ask most often about the 20ft DG container.

What is a 20ft DG container?

A 20ft DG container is a full-size 6 m bunded outdoor steel store, 6,058 x 2,438 x 2,896 mm externally, for Class 3, 4.1, 4.3, 5.1, 6.1, and 8 dangerous goods. It carries a 1,200 L integrated bund, a 316L stainless drain valve, and AS 1940, AS 3780, and AS 3833:2024 compliance.

What are the door options on the 20ft build?

Four: double-leaf end door, single side-opening, double side-opening, and full-length side-opening. End doors suit set-and-forget bulk storage. Full-length side-opening opens the whole long wall for forklift and palletised-IBC access on high-throughput sites with frequent stock rotation. Door choice is set at order so the factory builds to your access pattern.

How much can a 20ft DG container store?

The 20ft DG container holds 33.2 m3 internally, up to 39.8 m3 in the high-cube side-opening build, and about 10,000 L of liquid across multiple drums or IBCs. The 1,200 L bund caps the largest single container at roughly 1,000 to 1,100 litres under the AS 1940 secondary-containment rule.
