Accommodation Units

Mining Accommodation & Housing Units

Our housing units are portable, self-contained mining camp rooms built on ISO container frames for rapid deployment to remote mine sites. Each unit arrives from factory with bed, desk, wardrobe, split-system air conditioning, insulated sandwich panels, LED lighting, and full electrical fitout. Standard 20ft units provide approximately 14 m² of habitable floor area. 40ft units provide approximately 29 m². SCS builds both single-room and two-room configurations, with ensuite and kitchenette options factory-fitted before shipping.

Amenity Buildings

Camp Amenities and Support Buildings

Every mining camp requires amenity and support buildings alongside sleeping quarters. SCS manufactures the full range of camp support infrastructure, each building purpose-built for remote site conditions. Three amenity lines round out the camp: ablution blocks with full plumbing pre-fit, commercial kitchen containers built to mess-hall scale, and industrial laundry units with pre-plumbed washer/dryer banks.

Turnkey Accommodation

Modular Camp Systems

Modular workforce accommodation is a turnkey camp delivered as factory-built modules, craned into position on site, and connected to shared services. SCS manufactures complete modular mining camp solutions from one facility: dongas, ablutions, kitchens, laundry, recreation, guard houses, and crib rooms, all built to the same quality standard. Every module is portable and CSC-plated for efficient international transport on standard container shipping routes. Camps scale from 20-bed exploration setups to 500+ bed operational compounds.

Factory-Direct

Our Manufacturing Advantage

SCS Global Jiangsu factory interior, shipping container fabrication line for mining camp units

SCS Global is a factory-direct manufacturer of containerised accommodation, building every module at our Jiangsu facility with in-house quality assurance and CSC certification on units built into ISO container shells. Every competitor ranking for mining camp keywords in the Australian market is a domestic hire company or camp management firm. SCS is the only factory-direct manufacturer on page one.

Who typically buys

Tier-1 mining operators and EPC contractors specifying greenfield expansions, scheduled shutdowns, and workforce villages. Our sweet spot is 20 to 200-unit mid-size projects where factory-direct engineering and traceable containerised accommodation documentation cannot be batched through a reseller.

Documentation integrity

Every unit ships with a stamped QA pack, a CSC plate applied by Bureau Veritas surveyors at our factory, ACEP registration, and a full compliance dossier. Issued from the facility that built the unit, not re-keyed by a broker.

Compliance

Compliance and Certification

Workforce housing at mining sites in Australia must comply with AS/NZS 3012 for temporary structures on construction and mining sites, the Building Code of Australia (BCA Volume 1 Part J) for cyclone ratings in Region D wind zones, and state-specific mining safety legislation. International deployments face additional requirements. Every mining camp unit we ship carries a CSC plate, stamped QA documents, and a full compliance pack.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Five questions procurement teams ask most often about mining camp accommodation.

What Is a Mining Camp?

A mining camp is a self-contained compound of purpose-built buildings that houses a workforce at a remote mine site. Camps typically include sleeping quarters (dongas), ablution blocks, a commercial kitchen and mess hall, laundry, recreation facilities, first aid, and guard houses. Installations range from 20-bed exploration setups to 500+ bed operational compounds.

What Is a Porta Cabin?

A porta cabin is a portable, prefabricated building used as temporary accommodation or workspace on remote sites. In mining contexts, the term is interchangeable with demountable, relocatable, or transportable building. SCS manufactures porta cabins as factory-fitted modules on ISO container frames, shipped flat-pack or fully assembled.

What Is a Demountable Building?

A demountable building is a factory-built structure designed for repeated transport, installation, and removal. Demountable accommodation is standard on mining sites where buildings must relocate as tenements shift. SCS demountable units use bolted steel-frame construction for disassembly, relocation, and reassembly without structural compromise.

What Does a Mining Camp Include?

A full mining camp includes sleeping dongas, ablution blocks, a commercial kitchen and mess hall, laundry containers, guard houses, recreation rooms, first aid stations, crib rooms, and shared utilities covering power generation, water treatment, and waste management. SCS builds all ten building types from one factory.

How Much Does Mining Camp Accommodation Cost?

Cost varies with camp size (bed count), climate specification (SCS builds units rated from -35 degrees C to +50 degrees C in a single module design), cyclone rating, fitout level (standard through to ensuite and kitchenette), shipping distance, and site access constraints. Factory-direct pricing eliminates the reseller margins that inflate hire-company and broker quotes. Request a quote with your requirements for project-specific pricing.
